| As
seen in this picture, the deviator will save your boards nose
again and again. Simple but effective protection against slams
and catapults. It weighs just 6 ounces and sits in front of and
under your mast base, moving in conjunction with the base in the
mast track. The Deviator™
will take the place of your current skid plate (if you use one).
Not only is it being used by rental operations all over te world
but also by beginners, intermediates and even experts that have
that special super light weight board while sailing in extreme
conditions.
Attention:
The Deviator™
might not guard the nose from damages in every crash, but it will
90% of the time. So if it saves your nose once, it's already well
worth the investment.
In-correct
information about the Deviator™: -
If you use it, your mast box will rip out of your board.
FAQ
(Frequently Asked Questions)
Facts: Over
the past 10 years of extensive daily use by many windsurf rental
operations all over the world (what better testing then this
can anyone ask for), it has been proven to be an incorrect conclusion.
We have found that because of bad mastbox insertions due to lack
of epoxy resin saturation while inserting them, this has accurred
a few times.
98% of the boards however do not have this problem because most
of them have been properly inserted.
The unique design of the Deviator™
allows because of the tendon u-joint's elasticity, the forces
to be greatly reduced and the energy to be dissipated and absorbed,
therefore minimizing the stress to the mast box. For this reason
we advise to use a 2- bolt mastbase with a urathane joint. Be
sure never to use a mechanical joint.
For Maximum protection we advise to use the Deviator™
together with the molded nose-guards that some board manufacturers
offer.
Why use combination of these 2:
If you use only the molded nose-guard, the rig will still hit
the nose, causing all the energy of the slam to be absorbed by
the board. Putting extra stress on the structural aspects of the
board, which after time will cause the board to crack behind the
nose-guard and still break your board in 2, maybe not at the tip,
but surely somewhere else.
The best thing about The Deviator™
is that it avoids the hit and therefore the
energie, due to a direct impact hit of a slam/ catapult to be
absorbed by your board.
Therefore we can recommend for maximum protection, to
use both The Deviator and the glued-on nose guards!!
Tips on most effective use of the Deviator:
Use a two-bolt, rubber or urethane
joint
Don't use a mast base protector pad (padding gets hung up on
the roller) When using the Deviator it is the most effective if you do not
use a mast-base protector pad.
The problem of using a protector pad is that it avoids the rig
to get deflected properly, instead the pad avoids the deviator
to do it's job and get hooked up on the roller, causing the rig
to not get deviated properly. This will put unnecessary extra
stress on your u-joint and also the Deviator losses it's effectiveness. |
